The founder, Pete Paddick’s sister company, has supplied arcade equipment for over 25 years. In 2017 a university client announced they were making all their bars cashless, and they asked if the pool table could follow suit.

After exhausting all avenues, Pete realised there were no viable options on the market. This led to him setting up Payme system LTD (since rebranded to Flote.works LTD), where he developed a hardware device that piggybacked off a QR code payments company, Zapper. This solution worked well but was not scaleable in its current form, and then Zapper pulled out of the UK.

Pete quickly realised that he could not be beholden to other companies and started to pull a team together with the skills needed to design and build a platform from the ground up.

During the design phase, it became clear that building an IoT platform and just plugging in the required industry protocols, together with payments, was the way to go. What Pete created was far bigger and more capable than the team imagined.

The Flote platform now gives users great flexibility with future products. We can easily add any industry protocols and create bespoke solutions at a fraction of the price of dedicated solutions.
